Westminster Longer, Shorter & Childrens' Catechism

In 1647 the Westminster Assembly completed two directories of catechising of Christian doctrine. Both are made of spirtual questions and answers to educate lay people in matters of beliefs and doctine. The shorter catechism was to be easier for beginning Christians while the longer was to be more exact and comprehensive. The question and answer format allowed for easy of memorization.

Longer Catechism

The longer catechism contains 196 questions and answers.
1 - 20 are about God the Creator
21 - 29 are about man's sin
30 - 90 are about Christ
91 - 160 are about God's Laws, His Commandments and our spirtual growth
161 - 177 are about the Sacrements
178 - 196 are about prayer

Shorter Catechism

The shorter catechism contains 107 questions and answers.
1 - 12 are about God the Creator
13 - 19 are about man's sin
20 - 38 are about Christ
39 - 84 are about God's Laws and Commandments
85 - 90 are about repentance
91 - 97 are about the Sacrements
98 - 107 are about prayer

Children's Catechism

The chilren's Catechism contains 50 questions and answers.
1 - 14 are about God
15 - 23 are about man's sin
24 - 33 are about Christ
34 - 45 are about the Church
46 - 50 are about judgement
